LUDLOW Town Colts have “nothing to prove” when they meet landlords Ludlow FC in Saturday’s Shropshire Challenge Cup derby, insists boss Mark Tonkinson.

Colts have historically acted as a feeder side to Ludlow’s senior team but now play at the same level, albeit in the Herefordshire Premier, with Ludlow in the Salop Leisure League Premier.

And while aware his side will be the underdogs, Tonkinson is hopeful of springing a surprise – but added whatever the result the two teams will share a beer in the clubhouse afterwards.

He said: “Everybody can’t wait – it’s going to be a good day for the town of Ludlow. I don’t think the sides have ever played each other competitively so it’s going to be interesting.

“On paper they should beat us but I’ve told the lads they have nothing to lose and all the pressure is on Ludlow.

“I would like to think we will give them a good game, we’ve won three on the bounce and it would be nice to make that four, but they are a good team.”

Ludlow, meanwhile, head into the cup derby buoyed by a 1-0 win over Ams FC in the Salop Premier that “should have been seven or eight” according to Waldron.

Connor Davies-Austin nabbed the winner midway through the first half but boss Chris Waldron said: “It was one of those days in front of goal but their keeper made three or four very good saves.”

On the cup clash, which kicks off at 2.30pm at Ludlow Stadium, he added: “We are taking nothing for granted, they are a good side and we expect a physical game.”
