CLEOBURY Mortimer’s Ladies volleyball team have made an impressive start to 2018 with a 3-0 victory over Wombourne taking them to third in the table.

A close first set was edged by the home side 27-25 thanks to some strong attacking from Shannon Smith and serving from Lyndsey Potter and Katherine Howells.

Cleobury added the second set 25-16 when accurate passing from Zan Matuszewska gave setter Sip Gallagher the opportunity to utilise her attackers including Melissa Didlick (stepping up from the seconds) and Beeb Gallagher (who was playing out of her regular position).

Wombourne pushed on in the final set but the determined hosts held on to take it 25-22 with Sip Gallagher producing an amazing trick shot in the process.

Ellie Phelps also deserves a mention, another who stepped up from the 2nds to fill the role of super sub.
