TENBURY RFC head coach Andy Black is calling on his players to pull out all the stops for this Saturday’s match with Claverdon in Midlands Four West (South).

A bonus point win could lift the Penlu side off the foot of the table and Black has made no secret of the fact that the team will be targetting certain key games between now and the end of the season.

“This is certainly one that we have highlighted,” the coach admitted.

“We took a strong side to Burbage at the weekend and we will have another selection headache this week with more and more players becoming available.”

Claverdon whitewashed Tenbury 45-0 back in September, but Black expects the return game on home soil to be a different matter with his team ready to bounce back from the weekend’s 22-5 defeat at third-placed Burbage.

“The team played really well on Saturday but they had five very large forwards at the start of the game and scored two quick sides,” he explained.

“It was very soft underfoot and we couldn’t deal with them, we just don’t have players of that size at Tenbury.

“We also spilt two on their line which was frustrating and we suffered a little bit through a lack of decision making at times.”

Tenbury’s second half try was a well-worked move with Ben Spires gathering a Zack Thompson kick before dotting down.

And Black also praised the efforts of winger Nick Webb who had an exceptional game in the back row alongside skipper Tom Lawley.

“We had a good second half and our pack ended up pushing them,” he added.

Clee Hill meanwhile suffered a narrow 13-7 defeat at home to Midlands Four West (North) title hopefuls Wednesbury, George Andrews scoring a try for the home side which was converted by Callum Spires.

They head to Yardley & District this Saturday who were awarded a walkover victory against Church Stretton.

Cleobury Mortimer are another side keen to bounce back following their 64-12 defeat at the hands of Crewe & Nantwich – Sam Bills and James Ayerst with the tries.

They take on fellow strugglers and local rivals Kidderminster this Saturday.
