ORLETON’S Scott Moran says the race for the MSA British Hill Climb Championship will go ‘down to the wire’.
Scott, the reigning champion, secured a win in the second run-off of Sunday’s event at Shelsley Walsh.
He’s second in the leaderboard behind Trevor Willis with eight rounds remaining.
He will be racing at Gurston Down this weekend.
“There are eight rounds left and I have to get points in all of them,” said Scott, who works in Ludlow.
“It will be interesting now until the end of the year but I think it will go down to the wire. I can’t afford to lose another dropped score.”
Scott failed to qualify in the first run-off at Shelsley Walsh but his dad, Roger, was in top form and took first place.
Roger also shone in the second run-off, securing second spot.
“I got caught out the rain in the first one and it didn’t quite work out,” said Scott.
“I am in a reasonable position in the standings.
“If you take off the dropped scores, I think I am just one point behind Trevor Willis.
“Trevor has been tremendously consistent. Trevor has got nine second places and seven wins and two of the wins have been records.”
Scott achieved a win and a second place at Gurston Down in May. He’s hoping for a similar result this weekend.
“It’s a powerhill so we should be OK,” he said.
