Black Country Rangers 3 Tenbury United 1.

TENBURY looked like extending their winning run when they took an early lead in their West Midlands League Division 2 match at third-placed Black Country Rangers.

On 15 minutes, Lee Millichip, who was conspicuous by his work-rate throughout the game, passed the ball from midfield to Chris Patton who moved forward and drilled a cross-cum-shot.

Millichip was on hand to sidefoot the ball home from five yards.

With Michael Foster and Wesley Burleigh ably marshalling the defence for United, they were able to contain the impressive passing and movement game which started to give Rangers the upper hand.

After missing a gilt-edged chance, one of Rangers’ midfielders scored an equaliser in the 25th minute from just outside the penalty area past United goalkeeper Alex Bright.

Two minutes later, United were trailing when, following a corner, the home centre-half connected with a once-in-a-lifetime half-volley from 35 yards and Bright was left grasping at fresh air.

Manager Colin Powell was not too unhappy with the 2-1 half time scoreline, feeling that if they could frustrate Rangers in the second half, United could earn themselves a draw against opponents poised to challenge for honours.

But, with 65 minutes gone, Rangers, gaining in superiority, profited from a lucky bounce to cross and make it 3-1 from close range.
