The club was formed on Friday, April 28, 1950 mainly as a club supporting motor cycle events - not many people had cars in those days.

A change of direction took place in 1965 when the club withdrew from the Auto-Cycle Union and joined the RAC to concentrate on motor car oriented events.

In recent years, club members have been very successful on both local and national championships.

Richard Gough is a five-time winner of the local Woodpecker Rally, Andrew Sankey was 2005 BTRDA Champion Co-Driver, Neil Weaver was 2006 BTRDA 1400 Champion, Shaun Gardner/Ben Innes were 2006 BTRDA Gold Star Champions and Colin Stevens was 2009 Heart of England Rally Champion Co-Driver.

In previous years, club members were very active (and successful) on the road rallying front and organised one of the most popular events, the Peak Revs Road Rally.

There is now a revival in this aspect of motor sport with a number of members competing on road rallies.

The club organises many events, including Navigational Scatter Rallies, Autotests, National B Road and Stage Rallies including the popular Joe Price Supplies Time Trial at Haye Park.

The club was also involved for a number of years in organising the National A Stage Rally, the Kerridge/Mutiny Rally.
