MORE 150 youngsters took part in the latest round of the 3counties Central Venue League hockey tournament at Leominster’s Bridge Street Sports Centre.

The tournament is split into three groups; a mixed competition at under-11, plus separate boys’ and girls’ categories at under-13, and runs from October until April with the overall winner of each category decided across the seven, monthly rounds.

The competition includes players ranging from novices to others involved in county or regional hockey.

The under-11 category involved Ludlow, Stretton Juniors, Wye Dragons from Monmouth, the Telford & Wrekin Club and two sides from Kingsland. A Kingsland side won this month’s round, but Stretton lead the way overall.

The Under-13 boys category involved Ludlow, Stretton, Hereford, Telford, Kingsland, Monmouth plus Wye Warriors from Ross. Stretton were victorious on the day, but Kingsland are overall leaders.

The girls’ tournament attracted seven sides, the biggest entry to date. Kington, Kingsland, Ludlow, Hereford, the Red Giants from Ross and two teams from Tenbury took part, with Tenbury A coming out on top. Ludlow head this group.
