LUDLOW Town paid tribute to two of their club stalwarts who are stepping down from roles st the club.
Mark Tonkinson and Scott Mackenzie have finished their roles with Ludlow Town FC Reserves.
Tonkinson began coaching an under-8 age category in 2010, at Onny Juniors, spending two seasons before moving with the team to Ludlow.
He went on to manage Ludlow Under 17s, leading them to an unbeaten league and cup double.
Then in 2019 he came out of retirement to play for Ludlow Colts under Scott Mackenzie & Christian Leech, winning another league and cup double.
The follow year Tomkinson took over as manager with George Sankey as assistant.
Then in 2021 Mackenzie returned as his assistant.
Meanwhile, Mackenzie joined the club as an under-seven parent in 2007.
In 2010 he formed his own under-11 team, Ludlow Town Bulldogs, creating a committee and joining the Herefordshire Junior League.
Six years later the team entered the Herefordshire adult league Division 1 as Ludlow Town Colts.
In the 2018/19 season the team won the Herefordshire Division 1 and the Herefordshire Junior Cup with the Colts.
A club statement said: “Tonk and Scott have been central figures in the club for many years.
“Their passion, loyalty and countless hours of unseen work have shaped teams, supported players and strengthened the club’s identity.
“They will be greatly missed within the management team, but their impact will remain for years to come.”
In cricket, Ludlow firsts picked up a huge win in their battle for Shropshire County League Premier survival.
Ludlow bowlers Kate Brazier (3-45) and Joe Williams (3-10) were key to their sides success as opponents Wem were skittled out for just 124 off 29.5 overs.
However, Ludlow’s batters also struggled on the Wem pitch with overseas player Nathan Engelbrecht opening the batter with an important half-century.
Engelbrecht batted almost throughout the Ludlow innings as batters came and went at the opposite end.
Mike Green was the visitors’ next highest scorer with 17 before Zach White finished with an important 10 as Ludlow limped over the winning line and finished on 127/9 off 42.4 overs.
