LUDLOW shot up to fourth place in the Shropshire Premier Division as their bowlers dug them out of a hole in Wellington to register a third win on the spin.

Victory looked far from on the cards when Ludlow slipped from 50-0 to 70-8 after a promising half-century opening partnership between Luke Miles (37) and Sam Alford (22).

Dan Lloyd (5-23) and Wendell Wagner (3-25) did the damage but tail-enders Joe Williams (21no) and Luke Hicks (14) ground out runs that would be crucial as Ludlow staggered to 130 all out.

Wellington collapsed to 55-7 in reply as Miles (3-20) and Louis Watkins (3-21) applied the pressure and they were eventually dismissed for 113 despite a lower-order rally.

James Lawrence took 7-17 to dismiss Knockin and Kinnerley for 92 but Ludlow’s second XI still lost their Division Two match by 11 runs, all out for 81 as Scott Kemsley (15) top-scored.

In Division Four, Bishop’s Castle (71-1) strolled to a nine-wicket win over Iscoyd and Fenns Bank as Edgar Whately took 3-17 before Jonathan Price (33no) and Thomas Moulder (30no) sealed victory.

Church Stretton stay bottom of Division Five despite Saif Khalid’s 76 at Newtown. They posted 173-7 as James Evans also hit an unbeaten 34 but Newtown made 177-6 despite Jake Woodhouse’s 3-35.

Corvedale remain top of Division Seven despite suffering a first defeat of the season at a Quatt thirds side who have moved into second spot.

Joseph Cotham’s 5-12 destroyed Corvedale’s lower order as they were all out for 81, a target Quatt knocked off with relative ease at 85-3 although Adam Williams’ 3-11 kept them honest.

In the Worcestershire League, Cleobury Mortimer kept up their promotion bid with a seven-wicket win over Ombersley thirds.

Skipper Ed Kemp (3-23) and Sam Evans (3-24) limited Ombersley to 174 before Evans (88) and Liam Williams (37) ensured Cleobury sprinted home at 175-3 inside 22 overs.

In Division Eight West, Tenbury Wells are still unbeaten and still top of the pile after beating Highley by 85 runs.

Andrew Adams hit 119 as Tenbury amassed 256-9 before Jamie Farrar (3-24) helped dismiss Highley for 171 in reply.
