JOE Williams claimed a sensational seven-wicket haul as Ludlow CC made it two wins from their opening two Shropshire Premier Division games by beating Shrewsbury.

Ludlow slipped to 60-4 with the bat but Sam Edwards’ 51 helped them to a defendable total of 177-9 from their 50 overs.

In reply, they skittled Shrewsbury for 120 to win by 57 runs with Llyr Thomas (60no) the only man to survive the onslaught of Williams (7-38) as skipper Louis Watkins (2-23) also struck.

Ludlow seconds (147/6) also triumphed in Division Two, beating Forton (146) by four wickets as David Northwood (5-36) starred with the ball.

Despite a strong start, including a quick-fire 41 from new captain Ed Groom, Stretton collapsed from 58-1 to 61-5 before Zahid Sher (19) and Luca Justice (16) helped them to 106.

The hosts were struggling at one stage in reply at 51-4 as Keith Yapp (3-18) struck but Oli Stott (53no) got them home.
