BISHOPS Castle Cricket Club has received a major honour – after their ground was included in a prestigious cricket magazine’s annual calendar.

Each year, The Cricketer magazine seeks out picturesque cricket grounds to feature in their calendar.

And it will come as no surprise to anyone who has ever visited Bishops Castle’s Manor Ground on Montgomery Road that its stunning setting has made the cut this year.

Local photographer Philip Wilcox submitted a photo of the ground and the magazine’s writers and editors picked it as their November picture for their 2021 journal.

Chris Smith, from The Cricketer, told the Advertiser: “Our popular village cricket calendar aims to seek out cricket grounds that have a beautiful setting, but are perhaps only known to their local area.

“Generally we try to include new grounds each year.

“We received a submission of Bishops Castle from Philip and were delighted to include the ground, given its stunning backdrop, in our 2021 calendar.”

Club captain Simon Palmer said that Bishops Castle was “very proud to be included in the nationwide calendar” and added his thanks to Philip for submitting the picture.

It is not the first time Castle’s home has received national recognition – the Manor Ground was named the best ground in Shropshire by the county’s Cow Corner Podcast earlier this year.
