THE second round of the Herefordshire Winter Cross Country League in Mortimer Forest attracted 104 runners.

Matt James maintained his form, again winning in 38 minutes 41 seconds ahead of his Hereford Courier teammate Tim Clarke.

Amy Carwardine also triumphed for the second time in the ladies' race, in 24 minutes 15 seconds, but only just ahead of yet another courier runner, Alison Cooke (who was also first lady over 45).

Nicky Turvey (Croft Ambrey) confirmed her return with continuing improvement - ninth overall and second over 45, five seconds ahead of her daughter, Suzanne, in 26 mins 17 secs.

In the men's race, Stacey Morgan led home the Croft runners, fifth, less than two minutes behind the winner. Richard Hornsby ran well in 21st, with Ian Price (46.42) and Dave Powell 28th (47.22), putting the A team in fourth place on the day, and overall. Croft then packed extremely well, with Nigel Mason (30th) leading home a group who filled seven of the next eight places. This put the B team seventh and the C team eighth, out of 17.
