TENBURY United’s wobble continued as they blew a 4-1 lead to lose an 11-goal thriller last weekend – prompting rivals Tenbury Town to declare the Herefordshire Division One title race very much on.

United looked firmly in control against Leominster Town but goals from Mike Foster, Daniel Gittens, Ryan Morris, Chris Patton and Mark Boucker ended up being for nought as they amazingly lost 6-5.

Back-to-back defeats have pushed the Palmers Meadow side down to fourth after leading the table for much of the season and they now have their cross-town rivals breathing down their necks.

Fifth-placed Town, meanwhile, won 3-1 at Lads Club Reserves with goals from Alex Lombardi, Al Bright and Kurt Pardoe.

Only ten points separate the top seven after leaders Hinton Reserves also lost last Saturday and Tenbury Town boss Keiran Fish believes the title could be anyone’s.

Fish said: “Results went for us last weekend as Hinton Reserves lost, (second-placed) Ludlow Colts Reserves drew and Tenbury United lost. It’s game on.

“Now, we have three games in hand on Tenbury United and we are only three points behind them,” added Fish, prior to Tuesday night’s scheduled trip to Leominster.

Town also have games in hand on leaders Hinton and Fish admitted: “I’ve had a few people say to me they think we are probably going to win the league but it’s a bit early to tell still for me.

“But I like to just take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead – you only have to look at Liverpool, a team like that and they came unstuck against Watford, didn’t they?”

While United face another tough game this Saturday, at home to a Lads Club side they lost 5-1 to last month, Town have a great chance to make up more ground on the teams above them.

They host a Hereford City side currently propping up the table – that is if the game goes ahead, because the visitors have not played since an 8-0 thumping at Lads Club almost two months ago.

City have only played eight league games all season and Fish added: “We’ve heard they have been struggling for players so we don’t know if the game will be on.

“We’ve been in this position before – if we smash them, we don’t want them dropping out of the league in three weeks because then we lose the points. If they are going to do it, do it now.”
