IN-FORM Nick Apperley made it back-to-back competition victories by following up his Winter Series success by winning the December Medal event at Ludlow Golf Club.

In strong winds and heavy rain showers, Apperley topped Division One with a fine net 72, two ahead of Mark Brabazon.

Division Two saw Richard Cox win with the same net score of 72, three ahead of second-placed Graham Jones, on net 75.

Division Three saw a new face at the top in the form of Daniel Cox, with his net 68 easily the best score of the day, with Steve Fisher taking second place with a net 83.

Andrew Macwhirter won the Senior section’s Christmas Spirit competition with a winning score of 40 points, beating runner-up David Davies on countback.

Bill Billson and Rex Tudor-Hughes both recorded 39 points, with the former securing third place, also on countback.

Ludlow GC also recently held the second of its Winter Open Betterball Stableford competitions with the weather taking a real turn for the worse, as heavy, persistent rain blighted the day.

Battling through the downpours, the eventual winners were Ross-on-Wye’s Nigel Evans and The Worcestershire’s Steve Large with 42 points.

They pipped Ludlow’s John Cooke and Dave Botwood, who took second place with 41 points, with Hereford’s John Taylor and Ross’s Kevin Morril a point further back in third.
