NICK Apperley and Alan Meyrick topped the standings in the second round of Ludlow Golf Club’s Winter Series.
The format of the event was a “Medal-ford”, which required pairs to have one player scoring medal and the other stableford, with the stableford points subtracted from the medal score to find a total.
With strong gusty winds making scoring tough, Apperley (net 69) and Alan Meyrick (32 points) who excelled, returning a fantastic net 37.
They were six clear of their nearest rivals, Alan Reid (net 71) and Gordon Hall (28 points), with net 43.
That duo tied with Mark Desborough (net 70) and Graham Lane (27 points) but pipped them to second place on the back nine.
The Winter Series offers points to competitors, based on their position in each event. Points are awarded individually, as players may enter each event with different partners.
After two of the four Winter Series events, the order of merit sees George Watton and Will Evans tied at the top, with 14 points each, ahead of Nigel Griffiths on 11 points.
Elsewhere, Lin Thompson and Alan Reid completed a successful defence of the Mixed Turkey Competition, seeing off the challenge of new members Tracey and Graham Cheshire in second.
