A WATERLOGGED pitch postponed Tenbury derby day in Herefordshire Division One – but both sides’ promotion ambitions were still given a boost.

While Tenbury United’s clash with Town was called off due to a saturated Palmers Meadow pitch, their frustrations were eased by league leaders Ross Juniors suffering a first defeat of the season.

Their loss at Ludlow Colts Reserves means Ross are just two points ahead of United, whose joint boss Aaron Morris said: “We are second with a game in hand so we will take that.

“On the whole it’s not been a bad first half of the season. We’ve been a bit unlucky with injuries so I’m hoping over Christmas those niggles are sorted and we come back firing in January.”

Town, meanwhile, have suffered a series of postponements this season and have played just five games, meaning they will have 19 matches to fit into the second half of the campaign.

Joint-boss Keiran Fish said: “When it piddled down all Friday night, I thought it didn’t look good. We will be playing until the end of May at this rate.

“It might be two or three games a week when the sun starts to come out but Ludlow at least did us a favour which was good news."
