DECLAN Allen is praying his Shawbury United side will have the chance to put a run of games together after their stop-start season continued with an abandonment on Saturday.

Shawbury trailed 1-0 in the West Midlands Premier at AFC Bridgnorth when home skipper Matt Dean landed awkwardly and broke his ankle midway through the first half.

After an hour’s wait for an ambulance to arrive the game was abandoned, meaning Shawbury had played just three league games in the past six weeks prior to Tuesday night's scheduled match against Bewdley.

They have not tasted victory in two months and, to Allen’s frustration, are without a game this weekend before next Tuesday’s trip to Black Country Rangers.

“From a footballing point of view, it was obviously disappointing on Saturday because we were just getting into the game,” said Allen.

“Plus it now means we have another fixture to fit in but the main priority was the player’s welfare and full credit to our medical staff who stepped in to help.

“It would just be nice to have a run of games because the weather has played havoc with fixtures and we are averaging a game every ten days.

“That’s not ideal when your form isn’t great but the lads are fully focused on trying to get us out of this rut."
