CLEOBURY Mortimer RFC were relieved their game last weekend beat the weather – so they can let their hair down watching the World Cup Final on Saturday.

Mortimer were edged out 22-18 by a last-gasp try at mud-soaked Harborne in Midlands Three West North.

But with most games rained off and likely to have to be played this weekend, Mortimer can now sit back and watch England tackle South Africa.

Coach Aggy Desogus said: “The social club will be open and the lads will make a day of it. Some other clubs won’t be happy as they won’t be able to have a few beers if they have a game that afternoon!”

Mortimer trailed 15-6 at Harborne but fought back to lead 18-15 through tries from Alex Brazier and George Lloyd, only for the hosts to win it at the death.

Desogus added: “Conditions made it a scrappy game but we were glad to get it played."
