A CRACKING comeback win over Wellington Reserves can be the springboard for Ludlow Town Colts to start making a splash in the Herefordshire Premier, believes joint-manager Mark Tonkinson.

Colts recorded their second league win of the season in some style on Saturday, coming from 3-1 down at half-time to wallop Wellington 7-3.

The win lifted newly-promoted Colts to ninth and they will climb higher with another victory at home to Fownhope – one of the sides below them in the table – this weekend.

Tonkinson said: “It was nice to get back to winning ways and it was a great comeback because we looked dead and buried in the first half.

“Hopefully we can kick on from this and start climbing the table – I can’t see why not because we have a good squad of players and everybody is hungry for it.

“We have played four of the top five already so now we will be playing a lot of the teams around us and I think we will soon be moving up the table.”

Colts were without regulars Jack Gittoes, Dan Crowther and Kieron Hollis against Wellington but subs Dan Griffiths – drafted in from Ludlow’s first team – and debutant Sean Evans made an impact.

Martyn Jones’ goal was the only bright spot in the first period but a second-half Griffiths hat-trick and an Evans brace, plus a Jabez Smith strike, left the visitors stunned.

Elsewhere, Clee Hill United regained top spot as Charlie Edwards, Craig Breakwell, Craig Shorter, Liam Whitbread and Ryan Clarke all netted in a 5-2 win at Kingstone Rovers.

But Declan Bright’s goal was not enough for Tenbury Town as they lost 2-1 after extra time to St John’s Howle Hill in the Herefordshire FA Junior Cup.
