SHAWBURY United boss Declan Allen hopes FA Vase opponents Uttoxeter Town read too much into league positions ahead of Saturday’s first round proper clash at Ludlow.
Uttoxeter top Midland League One, while Shawbury sit 12th in the equivalent West Midlands Premier.
But, with games in hand, Allen believes Shawbury’s position is unreflective and hopes it lulls Uttoxeter into a false sense of security.
He said: “When the draw was made, they were fifth or sixth and both teams would have seen it as a winnable game but since then they have gone on a run, not dropping any points and scoring plenty.
“But it’s a cup game against a team at the same level so we don’t have anything to fear – I’m happy for them to look at the table and see the position we are in.”
Shawbury were denied victory by a last-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw at second-bottom Smethwick Rangers last Saturday, Reiss Corfield and David Jones getting United’s goals.
Allen added: “It was a bit of the unexpected because Smethwick appointed a new manager on Friday and signed five players just before the game."
