LUDLOW Golf Club’s scratch A team had to settle for the runners-up position in the County Scratch League final at Hill Valley Golf Club.
Darren Humphries, Ross Magill, George Watton and Kris Jones made a steady start in the morning, level at 2-2 with The Herefordshire, but were beaten 3-1 in the afternoon to lose 5-3 overall.
Closer to home, the weekend’s Captain & Professional versus the Club competition proved one to forget for captain John Linehan and professional Russell Price.
In this Betterball Stableford competition, all members aim to beat the score of the captain and pro, for which the top few places win the top prizes and all others receive their entry fees back.
This year’s competition saw only four pairs fail to beat their score of 36 points.
That left little to pay out to the top scorers, the best of whom were Martin Langford and Steve Cox with 44 points, just pipping Glyn Griffiths and Les Minton on the back nine.
