IN-FORM duo Eddie Rowland and John Adams swept aside the competition to claim the Seniors Open Betterball Stableford title at Ludlow Golf Club recently.

Their 44-point total pushed fellow Ludlow members Andrew MacWhirter and Mark Littlejohns into second place with 41 points, the latter duo having led from the start of the day.

The leaderboard was populated mostly by Ludlow pairings, with Stuart Plested and Ian Davies, and John Cooke and Phil Morris also returning 41 points, with just a card countback separating them.

In the August Medal, 18-handicap junior Edward Muttit-Jones, in Division Two, returned a best-of-the-day nett 65 leading the way by seven shots from second-placed Simon Herdsfield.

Division One was topped by Mark Brabazon, with an excellent nett 69 off his five handicap. His closest challenger was Mike Corfield with a nett 70.

Division Three saw John Stewardson return a superb nett 68 to win the division by six shots from Harvey Barker.

On the junior front, two very young Ludlow players competed in their first ever event on the Shropshire and Herefordshire Peewee Tour.

Brothers Harry, 7, and George Smith, 5, sons of former gents and ladies club champions Neill and Anna Smith, played on a windy day at the Grove Golf Club.

Harry scored a gross 45, only just losing out on victory by two shots, and registered a three on the 110-yard eighth hole, which he hit in one and followed up with a two putt.
