ROSS Magill continued his superb 2019 by winning Ludlow Golf Club’s Gents Club Championship by six shots.

Magill – who won the Midland Closed Amateur Championship in June – hit excellent rounds of 67 and 71 to lift the Irving Bowl with a two-under-par 138 total.

With such a fine gross score, it followed that Magill’s nett score was also the best of the weekend, securing him the George Duncan Putter to add to his growing silverware collection.

In the main gross competition, Darren Humphries was Magill’s nearest challenger, with scores of 71 and 73 giving him a 144 total, four ahead of third-placed Andy Greenhalgh (73, 75).

In the nett competition, Will Evans took second place, scoring 69 and 70, and Nick Giles was third with scores of 68 and 71, with Will’s better second-round score giving him the edge.

Gents captain John Linehan won the Junior Scratch Cup and George Barker claimed the Junior Cup, having returned gross and nett scores of 175 and 141 respectively.

It was a tough two days of golf for all the competitors who took part, with the course set up to its full length and the stiff prevailing wind adding to the challenge.
