CLEOBURY Mortimer CC kept on the tails of the top two in Worcestershire League Division Eight with a superb win at leaders Birlingham.

Mortimer began well with the ball as Luke Baldwin (2-40) claimed an early wicket but a boundary-laden 82 from Mike Sloan propelled Birlingham to a daunting 246-6.

In reply, though, Cleobury produced a fantastic batting display to cruise home at 249-4 with more than seven overs to spare.

Skipper Sam Evans (78), Ben Griffiths (54) and Ed Kemp (50) scored the bulk of the runs to keep Mortimer fourth, 19 points off the top two.

In Marches League Division Three, Knighton on Teme agonisingly lost by six runs in a low-scoring battle at home to Herefordians.

Jack Brain (3-16), Callum Spires (3-27) and Arthur Smith (2-15) helped skittle the visitors for just 93 but Knighton fell for just 87 in reply, Brain (21) top-scoring after Sam Wilcox (5-21) demolished the hosts’ top order.
