CHURCH Stretton slipped to a narrow Shropshire League Division Four defeat in a rain-affected match at Iscoyd and Fenns Bank.
Having lost the toss and been put in to bat, Stretton soon slipped to 11-2 with the quick departure of both openers, Saif Khalid (6) and Rob Whittall (1) each falling to Duncan Wright (2-24)’s early spell.
Gabriel Williams (26) and Huw Bevan (26) began the rebuild but it was slow going in a game reduced to 30 overs per side by downpours.
James Evans (28) kept the scoreboard ticking over but Stretton were unable to produce a late rally as they ended on 108-7, having been 82-3 at one stage.
In reply, Khalid (2-35) struck twice early to reduce Iscoyd to 12-2 and Stretton again looked on top at 69-5 with Edward Groom (3-11) in fine form.
But Iscoyd’s middle-order runs proved key as they got home with an over to spare at 109-7.
