SKIPPER Peter Lee hit a vital half century to help Church Stretton secure a losing draw at Shropshire League Division Four leaders Chelmarsh.

The hosts found runs easy to come by as they chalked up 265-5 before declaring with an over to spare. Lee and Edward Groom took two wickets each while Saif Khalid was the most economical of the Stretton bowlers.

In reply, Khalid and Rob Whittall fell cheaply but Lee held things together with his 56 while Luca Justice (44) and Charlie Reece (23no) gave useful support as the visitors reached 159-5 to deny their hosts victory.

Elsewhere in Division Four, Bishop’s Castle also managed to hold on for a losing draw, scoring 132-8 in reply to Bridgnorth 3rds who posted 257-7.

Corvedale were on the receiving end of an eight-wicket defeat at Pontesbury 2nds in Division Six. On a miserable day at the crease, last man Wyndam Williams (11 no) was the only player to reach double figures and he was left stranded as the remaining batsmen were dismissed.

Corvedale were dismissed for 45 and even though Ross Mantle took 1-5 from his four overs, tyhe hosts eased to 46-2 inside nine overs.
