BISHOPS Castle and Corvedale both got off the mark for the summer with maiden victories in the 2019 Shropshire League season last weekend.
Castle stormed to a seven-wicket win at home to Calverhall to move away from the lower reaches of Division Four.
Their bowlers set the platform for victory, Andrew Lewis (3-15) and Jack Perry (3-35) claiming three wickets apiece to help skittle the visitors for just 94, only Ian Millard (32) making a score of note.
In reply, Castle cruised to victory at 95-3 inside 26 overs thanks to Lewis (31), Jonathan Price (24) and a couple of big sixes from Perry (20no).
In Division Six, Corvedale ended Column’s unbeaten start to the season with an impressive six-wicket triumph as Harry Aldridge took 4-26 to help dismiss the visitors for 127.
Adam Williams (2-17) and Ross Mantle (2-18) also struck, while Nigel Newman (30) and Jon Yardley (23) were the pick of the Column batsmen.
In reply, Corvedale cruised home at 130-4 in the 26th over as Chris Moore hit 45, while Williams (34no) and Mantle (28) each struck a six.
