SKIPPER Peter Lee and Keith Yapp produced gutsy performances with both bat and ball to drag Church Stretton to their first win, albeit a narrow one, of the 2019 season.
Lee took stunning figures of 5-3 from just 21 balls to skittle visitors Prees’ tail in a battle between the sides occupying the bottom two places in Shropshire League Division Four at the start of play.
Yapp (4-41) had earlier dealt with the Prees top order as the visitors were dismissed for 105 inside 25 overs, with James Hopley (29) top-scoring.
To cap magnificent all-round displays, Yapp and Lee each took a catch off the other’s bowling and went on to make the vital contributions in Stretton’s reply.
Lee hit five boundaries as he top-scored with 36 to set the platform for victory.
And, after a middle-order collapse threatened to undo their hard work, last pair Yapp (11no) and Edward Groom (4no) guided Stretton to a dramatic one-wicket victory at 109-9.
