HEREFORD Lads Club Ladies clinched the Herefordshire FA Women’s County Cup after a goal either side of half-time courtesy of Mel Mayo and Amy Bradley helped them to a 2-1 victory over Ludlow Ladies.

Cheered on by a home crowd at Pegasus Juniors’ Old School Lane the Hereford side looked lively from the outset with Bradley having an early sight at goal before Amy Reynolds saw her headed effort from close range saved.

Ludlow were limited to few chances but struck on the break with Courtney Cooper sending a powerful effort just wide before Emilia James saw her effort denied by goalkeeper Ellis Casey.

Lads Club ramped up the pressure as the half went on and Emily Morgan sent her effort on the turn wide before Sarah Bishop also went close when through on goal.

On the 35th minute Bradley went even closer latching on to a long ball and beating the goalkeeper, only to see her effort fly the wrong side of the post.

Sharleen Watkins was next to go close for Lads Club, but her effort flew into the side-netting as the half wore on.

The deadlock was eventually broken on the 41st minute when Elle Williams’ cross was met at the front post by Mayo to tap home the opener.

Minutes into the second half Bradley doubled her side’s lead after running onto a long ball and sliding the ball past the goalkeeper.

Lads Club were dominating possession and Bishop almost had another sight on goal moments later, but was denied by a last gasp clearance before Watkins saw her dipping shot saved.

With 20 minutes remaining the tie swung when a rocket of a strike from Katy Huntbach pulled a goal back for Ludlow.

However, Lads Club saw out the final in fine style controlling possession and despite a late Ludlow strike flying wide the Hereford side clinched the cup.
