BRIMFIELD and Little Hereford Bowling Club is holding a series of events to attract new people to the sport – starting with its annual open day this Sunday (April 14).

The fun begins at 2pm with the club providing all the equipment required to help newcomers try their hands at flat green bowls.

An afternoon tea will round off proceedings at the club in Haynall Lane, Brimfield – with a 50 per cent discount on membership fees on offer.

Further to the open event, a series of ‘Play Bowls’ days, set up with the support of the Bowls Development Alliance, are scheduled at the club over the coming weeks.

Those begin on Saturday, April 20, with others planned for Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 26 – and club chair Jennie Cole hopes new faces will be encouraged to attend.

She said: “These morning sessions are two hours, from 10am to 12noon, specifically dedicated to new bowlers and also more experienced bowlers, who want to learn marking skills, relevant positions and more strategic play.

“If you can’t make any of the sessions, just contact us direct and we’ll arrange a convenient time for you.

“We welcome new members of all ages and abilities. It costs nothing to have a try – in fact the first four visits are free.

“There are matches and competitions all summer but you only join in when you feel you are ready – there is no pressure to do so.

“As a member, you can come and have a roll up at any time, the rinks are free. We have some players who play just once or twice a week, others play every day – it’s entirely up to you.”
