A THIRD win on the spin has kept Clee Hill RFC in with a shout of promotion from Midlands Four West North.

Hill, who sit fourth, beat Yardley and District 26-5 to move within four points off second-placed Willenhall.

With three games remaining, skipper Sam Link knows his side will probably have to win them all to have a chance of going up.

Their final two home games are against the bottom two – Essington and Market Drayton – but in between they visit champions-elect Linley.

Link said: “Linley have put 200 points on teams in their last two games so we know that will be a very tough match.

“But we will just see how it goes, we are not expecting to go up and we had no expectations of it at the start of the season.

“It was all about letting everyone get 12 more months’ experience under their belts and going from there.”

First, they must see off Essington and Link said: “We always seem to drop to their standard when we play lower teams but hopefully we can move the ball about like we have the last few weeks.”

Charlie Evans, Bryn Rees, Robbie Jordan and Matthew Meredith scored Hill’s tries against Yardley with Evans adding three conversions.

In Midlands Three West North, Cleobury Mortimer’s five-match winning streak ended with a 34-26 loss at Harborne.

John Hulland, Tom Leach and Ed Lewis scored tries while Hayden Edwards kicked three penalties and a conversion.
