LUDLOW Hockey Club men’s first XI warmed up for this weekend’s huge top-of-the-table clash at Market Drayton with a 3-2 win over Bromsgrove.

Gavin Hughes’ second-placed side will draw level on points with West Midlands Division One leaders Drayton if they beat the table-toppers this Saturday.

Ludlow sit two points above third-placed Stourport, with the top two to go up, and captain Hughes said: “At the start of the season I said we were aiming for promotion and we are on course to do that.”

Bromsgrove had recently beaten leaders Drayton and went ahead at Ludlow but the hosts fought back to triumph comfortably through goals from Brendan Pratt, Craig Heath and Jake Watts.

Elsewhere, a depleted Tenbury Ladies First XI lost 4-1 at home to league leaders Worcester seconds in Worcestershire Division One.

They had to play the first half with only ten women, but after an 11th player turned up at half-time, Tenbury did pull a goal back through Cat Mumford.
