LUDLOW RFC extended their cushion at the top of Midlands Two West North to nine points as they maintained their flawless home record with a 35-0 shut-out of Crewe & Nantwich.

Not a single team has taken a league point away from The Linney this season and that continued on Saturday as the visitors failed to register even a single score in the game.

It was sponsors' day at The Linney and Ludlow gave a huge crowd plenty to purr about, putting the first try on the scoreboard after just ten minutes courtesy of Will Sparrow.

A number of forward drives left Crewe & Nantwich short of cover on their right and Sparrow had an easy run in courtesy of Will Hodnett's pass.

Number eight Charlie Doyle showed a clean pair of heels and a lovely sidestep to score Ludlow's second and Sparrow converted both tries to leave the score at 14-0 at half-time.

In the second half, Ludlow’s scrum pushed C&N back 20 metres but the referee ruled the ball had been held up as they crossed the line.

Undeterred, Ludlow repeated the exercise and this time Doyle made no mistake to touch down for his second try. Sparrow converted.

The fourth try featured more than 20 phases of play before a big hand-off from Hodnett and a beautifully-timed pass put substitute wing Laurence Hughes in for a try in the corner.

Ludlow added a fifth try late on as Hughes seized on a loose ball and fed full-back Joe Doyle to cap a superb win. Sparrow kicked every conversion.

Ludlow take a break from league action this weekend before visiting mid-table Leek on Saturday, February 16.

There was a 31-17 defeat for Ludlow’s Second XV at Bromsgrove thirds in the Midland Reserve League.
