LUDLOW Runners’ Alice Godding claimed a top-three finish at the third Herefordshire Cross Country League race of the season.

The event was held by Wye Valley at the new venue of Queenswood, with 217 finishers competing over a hilly and testing woodland course in ideal racing conditions.

The host club won the women’s team race, with Wye’s Jodie Newell triumphing individually by 46 seconds ahead of Rhayader’s Jo Rees in second.

Ludlow’s Godding pipped Hay Hotfooters’ Bethan Logan in a sprint finish for third spot, helping the Runners to third place in the team event.

The men’s race was won by Builth’s Tim Iveson, ahead of teammate Jonny Pugh in second and a remarkable run from 53-year-old Mike Pfeiffer in third place.

The fourth race in the five-race series will be held at Fforest fields, near Builth Wells, on Sunday, February 3.
