CLEOBURY Mortimer head coach Rod Yapp believes his side will comfortably pull away from relegation danger if they continue to play as they did in Saturday’s defeat to leaders Shrewsbury.
Mortimer held the unbeaten Midlands Three West North table-toppers to a narrow 7-3 lead at half-time – Alex Sparks kicking a penalty for the hosts – before a couple of second-half yellow cards proved costly as they lost 21-3.
The loss saw them slip to tenth, just one place and three points above the bottom two, but Yapp is confident his side will stay up.
He said: “I was really pleased with the lads’ spirit. The attitude of the boys was great, they dug in right from the word go.
“If we performed like that every week, we wouldn’t be where we are now but I’m very confident, if we keep playing like that, that we won’t have any problems at all.
“We will only have problems if we start thinking about it too much and getting uptight. If we just go out and play our rugby, we will be all right.”
