TENBURY and Clee Hill both recorded impressive victories to move into the last eight of the Midlands Junior Vase – and take another step towards a potential national final at Twickenham.

Each side is now three wins away from lifting the Midland Vase – and four victories from reaching the national showpiece at the home of English rugby.

Midlands Five side Tenbury played with the strong wind in their favour in the first half at Claverdon and took full advantage, establishing an unassailable 35-0 lead.

Zac Thompson converted all five first-half tries, the first of which he scored himself. Callum Spires, twice, Greg Powell and Adam West – who ran the length of the pitch for an interception try – also crossed the line.

Claverdon scored two converted tries after the break but Tenbury’s Hobie Gill got their sixth try in between the hosts’ scores with a fine solo effort that Thompson again converted.

Clee Hill fell behind to an early Pershore penalty in their game – but that would be the visitors’ only score as Hill brushed them aside 36-3.

Tries from Callum Preece, Gary Edwards, Matthew Meredith, Bryn Rees and Charlie Evans established a 29-3 half-time lead before Richard Wozencroft added the solitary second-half score. George Warrington landed three conversions.
