LUDLOW let slip a two-goal lead at high-flying Hawkins Sports as a late penalty meant they had to settle for a point in West Midlands Division Two.

The visitors led 2-0 at the interval thanks to goals from the prolific Ryan Lewis and Jack Marston.

However, an Aaron Dovey own goal 15 minutes from time handed Hawkins a lifeline and they salvaged a point at the death after Morgan Millard conceded a penalty.

Ludlow joint manager Chris Waldron said: “We had a few players out with injuries so I would have taken a point before the game but when you are 2-0 up it’s disappointing not to win.”

Church Stretton, meanwhile, bounced back from defeat against Gornal – Stretton’s first loss in seven months – with a 4-1 win at home to Warstones Wanderers.

Stretton fell behind after just two minutes but Aaron Gough’s double – including a stunning top-corner strike – plus headers from Dean Richards and Tom Carter gave them victory.

Boss Scott Peever said: “You are never quite sure how you are going to respond after losing but the lads were brilliant and it was probably our best performance of the season.”
