LUDLOW Castle Motor Club have a national champion in their ranks after Dave Brick’s triumph in the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association Stage Rally Championship.

Father and son team Dave and Freddy Brick travelled to the Trackrod Rally in Yorkshire, the final round of the BTRDA calendar.

With brother Toby having already claimed the prestigious 1400cc codrivers title, Freddy was drafted in to try and guide his father to the drivers’ title.

Brick knew that he had to finish fourth or above in order to claim the spoils.

A spin on stage three saw the pair drop to third in their Vauxhall Nova, a position they held with one stage to go, the longest of the day at 13 miles.

Brick held his nerve and, despite losing the power steering, he finished 29th overall but, more importantly, third in class to take the Championship title.

Clubmate Keaton Williams, co-driving for Bob Vardy, was also on the podium as the pair finished second in their Championship class for the season after coming home 17th overall, and first in class, on the day. Williams also finished as second junior co-driver for the season.

Elsewhere, several Ludlow Castle members tackled the Agbo Stages Rally at Weston Park on the Shropshire-Staffordshire border.

Cleobury Mortimer-based Ben Innes and his partner Oliver Davies defended the title they won last year as they won by 24 seconds.

Lee Halfpenny and Richard Parry finished 19th overall and tenth in class, while father and son Tim and Michael Baker came home 26th overall and 12th in class.

John and Michele Petrie finished 35th overall and fifth in class while Richard Fletcher and Mike Wilding came 57th overall and fourth in class.

Steve Davies and Lucy Wilding enjoyed a fine fortnight in the Association of West Midland Motor Clubs Heart of England Stage Rally Championship.

At the Patriot Stages in Caerwent, they finished 26th overall before coming 21st in the final round, the Adgespeed Stages, held near Wigan, meaning Davies claimed silver in the Drivers’ Championship, as did Wilding in the Codrivers campaign.
