TENBURY RFC continued their promising start to the Midlands Five West North season with a fine 45-5 victory at Birmingham outfit Dixonians.

They ran in seven tries to make it three wins from three in all competitions this season – two in the league and one in the cup.

Tenbury made a good start as captain Ben James and Alex James combined to send Zack Thompson over for the first try, which he also converted, inside the opening five minutes.

Some good passages of support play produced further tries from Adam West (2), Greg Powell and Hobie Gill as Tenbury built a hefty half-time advantage.

They eased their feet off the gas after the interval but still managed two more tries from Gill and Craig Parkes, both converted by Thompson.

Tenbury sit in second place in Midlands Five West North and host Stourport this Saturday looking to maintain their 100 per cent record.

There was no such joy elsewhere in the division as Church Stretton were thrashed at home 69-5 by league leaders Warley, while Bishop Castle & Onny Valley lost 54-6 at Chaddesley Corbett.

In Midlands Three West North, Cleobury Mortimer were whitewashed 38-0 at Burntwood, while an under-strength Clee Hill side lost 43-12 at Rugeley in Midlands Four West North.

Hill started well, controlling the first ten minutes and were still in the game when Robbie Fletcher’s try reduced their deficit to 12-5 but Rugeley ran away with it from there.

Steve Adams converted his own late try to give the visitors a consolation and captain Sam Link is hoping his side will bounce back at home to Willenhall this Saturday.

Link said: “We had a few players missing which didn’t help but we had won our first five games, including friendlies, so one loss in six isn’t bad.”
