TENBURY RFC got their season off to a terrific start by thrashing local rivals Greyhound 59-0 in the first round of the RFU Midlands Junior Vase.

Gill Hobe, Greg Powell, Adam West, Jacob Thomas, Alex James, new captain Ben James and Joe Partridge were among Tenbury’s scorers in the nine-try rout.

Zac Thompson added 14 points with the boot as he converted seven of the tries.

The victory pleased new chairman Andy Black after a difficult campaign last term when Tenbury were relegated, having finished bottom of Midlands Four West South.

Black said: “We have regrouped during the summer. We've made a few changes, brought in a new captain in Ben James and everything looks promising."

Tenbury are back in league action this Saturday with a Midlands Five West North trip to Birmingham-based Dixonians.

Elsewhere, Church Stretton conceded their Junior Vase game at home to Linley but Clee Hill progressed with a 32-15 win at Redditch.
