WOOFFERTON FC have scotched rumours the club is folding after 125 years despite its withdrawal from the Herefordshire Football League this season.
The club will not field an adult league team for the 2018/19 campaign – but says it intends to return to the Herefordshire League in future seasons.
A club statement issued this week said: “Woofferton FC unfortunately could not commit to the 2018/19 season in the Herefordshire Football League.
“We will be entering our under-15s into their Herefordshire Junior League this season and committee members will be focusing and supporting the youngsters as they, hopefully, in a couple of seasons may step up to adult football and continue the Woofferton FC name in local football.
“The football club has been going since 1893 and there have been periods where an adult team has not played, but the club has always bounced back and survived.
“We would just like local football enthusiasts to know that, despite rumours of the club folding, it is still going and we are looking to the future, with our youth side.”
The statement also confirmed that Dave Thomas, 46, will remain as club secretary and treasurer but will turn out as a player this season for Woofferton’s former Division One rivals Orleton.
