SEVERAL Ludlow Castle Motor Club members travelled to the Epynt Military Ranges near Brecon to take part in the Harry Flatters Rally, the latest round of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship and a round of a number of other regional championships.

The rally, over 11 stages covering 70 miles, was split into two categories - a historic event and a modern event and was run in challenging conditions with thunderstorms throughout the day.

Top seeded crew at three were Jason Pritchard/Phil Clarke, the pair tackling the modern rally in Pritchard’s Fiesta S2000. Keaton Williams was out once again with Roger Moran in the latter’s historic BMW M3 with 17 on the doors.

Elsewhere, co-driver Jez Rogers was also chasing British Championship points alongside Simon Webster in a MKII Escort at 27 with Lee Halfpenny/Chris Ridge running at 56 in Halfpenny’s modern MKII Escort.

Local honours went to Moran/Williams even though the former had been out of the car for ten months. They consistently set top ten historic times and came home seventh historic, fourth in class and 11th in the combined results.

Webster/Rogers were next despite being a little over ambitious on the infamous Burma Road Stage which saw them leave the road. A wrong tyre choice for the penultimate stage saw them lose time but an excellent final stage run on slicks in the rain was rewarded ninth overall historic, fourth in class and 13th combined.

Halfpenny/Ridge were happy to bring the Escort home in tenth overall in the modern section, third in class and 26th overall but there was disappointment for Pritchard/Clarke who retired the S2000 at the start of stage eight with a broken differential.
