ST LAURENCE Primary School have been crowned Shropshire Year 6 Kwik Cricket champions.

Players from the Ludlow school beat Newport Junior School by 31 runs after an action-packed final at Wellington which saw 19 boundaries and 13 wickets fall between the opponents.

St Laurence had won through to the 14-team finals day through one of the qualifying tournaments held across the county this summer.

And they got off to a fine start at Wellington with an unbeaten record which saw them win their pool ahead of Meole Brace Primary School.

And St Laurence smashed three sixes in the first over of their semi-final against Bridgnorth’s St John’s Catholic Primary School, en route to a 30-run victory.

“Kwik Cricket is a great introduction to the game whereby children of all abilities and experience can learn the game while having fun,” said competition organiser Jim Roberts.

“The entire day was played in a tremendous spirit by all the schools taking part.”
