SHROPSHIRE CCC over-60s got back to winning ways with a tense victory over Worcestershire at Wellington, but the over-50s lost against an unbeaten Gloucestershire featuring a former England international at Quatt.

Skipper John Foster opted to bat and, after losing an early wicket, he and Elwyn Jones took the score on to 97.

Peter Hayes hit 29 from 20 balls – including six boundaries – and Alan Denver, who later took two smart stumpings, finished on an unbeaten 39 as Shropshire post 198 for 5.

After 12 overs in reply, Worcestershire had stuttered to 28 for 2 and although they put on a third-wicket partnership of 67 Shropshire won by 11 runs.

Over-50s skipper Bryan Jones chose to bat first against a side featuring former England ODI player and Gloucestershire captain Mark Alleyne.

Opener Ed Home batted through the innings to finish on an unbeaten 73 but had no regular partner as Shropshire posted 183 for 9 and fell short by seven wickets.
