LUDLOW Cycling Club star Jack Stanton-Warren finished second overall in L’Etape de la Defonce 2014 Road Race in South Wales.
He shone at the three-stage event in which Ludlow were sixth after the first leg.
Stanton-Warren won the first prime which gave him a time bonus of 20 seconds before he broke away with two other riders to extend his lead by an additional minute.
He came second in the sprint which gave him the yellow jersey and an overall lead of 25 seconds.
Stage two was a hilly course of 44 miles with 12% inclines which made it tough for the cyclists.
Ludlow Cycling Club had to defend the yellow jersey by policing any moves on the road that could take away Stanton-Warren’s lead.
Steve Minton was sent up the road to cover time primes and was joined by three other riders, including two from Ludlow CC - Gil Richards and Dan Cutting.
However, the second placed rider from Paramount CRT bridged the gap to the first group without Stanton-Warren seeing the move.
The Paramount rider powered away to a deserved overall win of the 2014 L’Etape de la Defonce Road Race.
But it was a fine effort by Ludlow Cycling Club, a small regional organisation holding their own against competitive racing teams.
