THE number of ‘all setting’ deaths including care homes in Worcestershire has now risen to 528, latest figures show.

One person in the county died in a care home due to coronavirus between July 10 and July 17 according to new data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The single death brings the total ‘all settings’ deaths in Worcestershire to 528 after one more death in the county’s hospitals was confirmed on Wednesday (July 29).

The death means 306 people have died of coronavirus in Worcestershire’s hospitals - 278 in the acute hospitals trust and 28 in the health and care trust.

The city’s infection rate also increased in the week up to July 25 - rising to 6.9 cases per 100,000 people from 2.0 in the previous week.

The infection rate also jumped in Malvern and Wychavon, according to the Public Heath England data.

The latest ONS data shows where people died and in what setting.

The one death during the week was registered at a care home in Wychavon with no new deaths registered outside of hospitals in the rest of the county.

The figures for Worcester show 62 people have died including 28 in hospital, 27 in a care home, four at home, two in a communal establishment and one in a hospice.

Figures for Wychavon show 110 have people died including 49 in hospital, 49 in a care home, five at home, four in a communal establishment, two in a hospice and one elsewhere.

A total of 47 people have died in Malvern, 24 of which took place in hospital, 20 died in a care home, two at home and one in a communal establishment.

Figures for the rest of the county show 133 people have died in Bromsgrove including 74 in hospital, 54 in a care home, four elsewhere and one in a communal establishment.

The figures for Wyre Forest show 115 have died across ‘all settings’ including 65 in hospital, 39 in a care home, nine at home and two in a communal establishment.

In Redditch, 60 people have died from coronavirus including 49 in hospital, eight in a care home, two at home, and one in a communal establishment.

The infection rate jumped in Wychavon and Malvern Hills in the last week compared to the previous week with the rate in Wychavon increasing from 1.6 to 8.6 and increasing from 0 to 2.6 in Malvern.

The infection figures are based on pillar one data – laboratory tests – and pillar two data – tests carried out in the wider community.
