STUDENT accommodation could be developed in a Dudley town centre building if plans are given the green light.

A planning application submitted by J H Dant Property could see flats on New Street converted to a house of multiple occupancy for student accommodation.

Under the plan, flats one to six of New Street Chambers would be converted to contain 12 student accommodation units.

The building is currently part of the Dudley Town Centre Conservation Area and planning documents state the scheme will not impact adjacent properties.

A heritage statement for the scheme, that has been submitted to Dudley Council, states: “The existing ground and three upper floor frontages to New Street and High Street will remain as existing, as the proposed works are all internal and the external fabric of the building will not be altered in anyway.

“The existing façades have previously been rejuvenated, by way of decoration by the owner, prior to the submission of the application for the Change of Use.”

If planning permission is granted, the existing accommodation would have internal sub-divisions to make the units.

The application is now open for comments on Dudley Council's planning website, with the reference P20/0744.
