OWNERS of a historic Redditch pub with a hotel and restaurant have confirmed they have 'no plans to reopen'.

The Foxlydiate Arms on Birchfield Road, which has a Brewers Fayre restaurant and a Premier Inn hotel, is a 'loss-making' establishment according to owners Whitbread.

The owners have also said the land surrounding the pub has been allocated for residential development by Bromsgrove District Council.

A spokesperson for Whitbread said: ‘The Foxlydiate Arms is a loss-making hotel and restaurant and requires considerable investment to bring it up to the brand standards our customers expect.

"The land around the hotel and restaurant has also been allocated for residential development by Bromsgrove District Council.

"Our ambition was to sell the hotel and restaurant as a going concern and we actively marketed the site to established pub operators last year. Unfortunately we did not receive any sensible offers from public house, restaurant or hotel operators.

"The only commercial enquiries we received were from home builders looking to redevelop the site for new homes.

"After carefully considering our options we are currently in discussions with the team in relation to the potential future of the site. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of the team during these discussions."
