NEW data shows more than 470 Worcestershire residents - with Covid-19 mentioned on the death certificate - had died in all settings up to May 22, according to latest Office of National Statistics (ONS) data.

The figures cover people who died from Covid-19 and the local authority area in which they lived, and provide information on deaths outside of county hospitals.

The ONS data also shows the effect of the lockdown in helping bring down the number of deaths in the county.

The latest data, covering the week May 15 to May 22, shows:

14 people died in a care home; five from Bromsgrove, four from Wyre Forest, two from Malvern Hills, one Worcester resident, one from Wychavon and one from Redditch.

Nine people died in hospital; four from Redditch, four Wyre Forest residents and one from Bromsgrove.

And a further person died at a place listed as elsewhere.

Some of the deaths are ones previously not reported on as the daily regional figure from the NHS is only people dying of Covid-19 at county hospitals.

The total across all settings that week, 24, shows the significant drop in numbers. For example, four weeks earlier - between April 17 and April 24 - 98 county people died across all settings.
