THERE have been no deaths related to coronavirus in Worcestershire hospitals reported over the weekend.

The latest figures, announced by the NHS on Saturday and Sunday, show no further reported deaths in county hospitals due to Covid-19.

The total number of hospital deaths therefore remains at 243, made up of 220 deaths at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and 23 at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust (the same as Friday's figure).

Nationally, it was announced on Saturday that a further 207 people, who tested positive for Covid-19, had died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 22,971.

Patients were aged between 37 and 100 years old. 19 of the 207 patients (aged between 60 and 95 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

It was announced on Sunday that a further 178 people testing positive for Covid-19 had died in hospitals, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 23,149.

Patients were aged between 32 and 98 years old. 12 of the 178 patients (aged between 58 and 95 years old) had no known underlying health condition. In total 269 further deaths of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 were reported across all care settings on Sunday, taking the total deaths to 31,855.

Their families have been informed.

On Saturday Transport secretary Grant Shapps announced that walkers and cyclists would be placed at the heart of a transport strategy to recover from the pandemic. He told the nation there had now been more than 1.7 million Covid-19 tests in the UK, of which 96,878 tests were carried out on Friday.

The Saturday deaths figure represented 346 fatalities since Friday.
